The Department of Municipal Affairs chose the name Minton.  It is said that the name came from a town in England which was famous for its china.  This community was first established as a hamlet in 1930.  In 1951, the hamlet was incorporated as a village.  Early residents were of mainly English and German ancestry.  The village is located along Highway #6, approximately 12 miles north of the U.S. border.  Minton is a friendly community whose residents are mainly tied to the agricultural community which surrounds it.
