Town of Ogema

Ogema was originally named Omega but was changed to its present name because there was already a community named Omega.  The name Ogema is unique in that it retained all of the letters from the name Omega but it is a Cree Indian word meaning “big chief”.  The town became incorporated in 1911 with settlers coming from Ontario, the United States and the British Isles.  Ogema is located on the Red Coat Road and Rail and has the largest grain-handling facility on the line.  Ogema is seen as a community that is very progressive and thriving; in 2005 the Town of Ogema received the Canada Lands Sustainable Development Award!

Ogema to Weyburn = 80 km
Ogema to Regina = 118 km
