City of Weyburn

Weyburn was founded in 1898; incorporated into a village in 1902, a town in 1903 and a city in 1913.  There are two different stories that tell the origin of the name “Weyburn”.  The first one is states that Weyburn was names after a railway man who supervised the laying of steel.  Others insist that the city got its name from a Scot who was coming across the Souris River.  This Scot man exclaimed “Wee Burn” and hence the community became known as Wee Burn, later changing its spelling to the present name of Weyburn.
